With the New Year ahead, it’s time to refresh and renew and that’s precisely what clients and staff at Wellington Point Community Centre have been doing.

As one community, staff and clients came together to choose and plan a new outdoor space at their site. They talked about the look and feel of the area, as well as the activities that could be enjoyed in the space.

With a plan in place, the team headed to Bunnings to choose decorations and plants. Clients used their communication skills to ask Bunnings staff about different varieties of plants. They also developed their money handling skills during the checkout experience.

Back on site, everyone was so excited to roll up their sleeves to begin planting! Some clients dug the holes, others poured the potting mix and planted shrubs, flowers and more.

Some garden beds are raised, making it easy for clients of all abilities to have a go at gardening. Shane took on the challenge to load a tub with mulch to spread around the garden beds.

“It was a real community activity. Everyone contributed to creating a sensational garden area that we can all enjoy. Troy was very proud of his mowing efforts too. We have given new life to our site with this new outdoor area. It’s a great way to start the New Year,” said Meagan, Team Leader at Wellington Point Community Centre.

Wellington Point Community Centre is now brimming with fragrant flowers and greenery. Clients can use the new outdoor area to take time out, participate in mindfulness activities, to socialise and a whole lot more.
