The residents of Narellan Supported Accommodation have been running, bicep curling and boxing away their COVID-19 blues in their spectacular home gym. Since getting their sweat on in the gym and experimenting with healthy recipes, Andrew, Paul, Michael, Shaun and Thomas experienced a positive shift in their mental wellbeing.
All of Afford’s Supported Accommodation sites have your best interests at heart and lifestyle assistants will always be there to support you to achieve your goals.
“Exercising is not just about getting fit. For our clients, working out improves their mindset and mood. They are brighter and more positive when they exercise and that is something their families have noticed too,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Samer Wadi.
Samer has been working with the clients at Narellan for over four years and first met them when they were at Eschol Park Respite. When the Narellan site was ready, Samer’s team leader recommended moving with the clients as they had developed such a great bond.
“It has been such a great journey with these guys. We have helped them get on the right track with food and exercise and just built a solid friendship,” continued Samer.
At the beginning of 2020, when Sydney experienced the first lockdown, the team invested in some home gym equipment as they knew how much the guys enjoyed accessing the local gym. It has been a great asset, especially given the most recent lockdown.
Other activities that Andrew, Paul, Michael, Shaun and Thomas have enjoyed during this downtime include catching up on the recent blockbuster films, having some friendly competition with video games and cooking healthy dinners.
“They are looking forward to being able to visit their families. They have been catching up with them on Zoom and phone calls, but they are excited to get their normal routine back. They also really miss attending the day program and seeing their friends,” said Samer.
Keep up the positivity, Narellan and enjoy using this time to become your best selves.
